The Opposite of Tidy (Blog Post #2)

A Reason To Leave
I remember the time that we were all together once,
But the next thing you know,
You leave for another women.
I once thought we were a happy family,
Who was there for each other when we needed company.
But I guess "happily ever after" really is a fantasy,
And all this time I thought that we were your top priority.
Why did you have to leave us?
What is the reason for you to leave?

We were torn apart like wasted paper,
We were clueless without your light.
What is it you see in That Women,
That you don't find in us?
Were we not good enough for you?
Is that your reason to leave?

We waited days and nights,
For you to change your mind.
We stayed up till 1,
Hoping that you will come.
But you never turned back once.
I though I loved you, and you loved us,
But I guess I was wrong,
I never thought this would happen to us.
I see others happier than us,
Did you find happiness being with her?
Is that the reason for you to leave?

  1. Mehvish I can feel the frustration that the protagonist feels because of her husband's desertion. Her plaintive cries of why did you leave us, make it seem as if she is genuinely bewildered.

  2. I really like your slam poem. I can clearly understand what is going on in the book and how the main character feels. Moreover I really like how you included that guilt and doubt the the protagonist is feeling.

  3. Your poem is excellent. It gives a great idea about the novel and I can feel what the protagonist is feeling. It is sad how people live with people for years and then dump them for someone else, I do not know how people do that. This poem gives a great idea about how some spouses are and how they can leave without even a second of guilt and regret after spending years with their family, just like the antagonist in your novel. Great job!!
